Saudi Arabia wanted to fund a advertisment campaign in US cable networks headlining their support for the War against Terror. Such was the cowardice and unwillingness of media executives to be the first to air these ads, that these ads are still to be shown, representing a major loss of ad revenue for the affected stations. Do these ad execs think that the American public really think there is a "War Against Terror" or do they still think it is a War against Arabs, Muslims, or a War to regain American pride? Maybe they are too close to the real sentiment of the American people. We hope they are not. We trust that America has not lost their tradition of free speech, of the rights of those who wish to express different views. Such is that which sets America apart from many other countries. Or did Osama bin Laden really acheive what he wanted? Simultaneously, these Ad execs have missed a chance to courageously balance and define the real War against Terror, for the sake of an easy life... See Saudi ads nixed by cable nets Extract: At least nine national cable networks have turned down a potentially lucrative -- though controversial -- ad schedule from the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. No national cable networks are known to have accepted the ads. The 10-day flight is an image campaign from the Arab nation. The tagline for the spots is "The People of Saudi Arabia -- Allies Against Terrorism." Published May 01, 2002 06:18 PM in Asia |
