Asian Market Research News

China certainly has a prediliction for things Western as far as popular culture, and specifically popular music goes. But like Thailand which has a massive indigeneous popular music industry and unlike Malaysia where US pop culture predominates, China boasts their own pop artists.

The China Daily reports on how China's own Greatest hits of the year are compiled.

The "Top 10 Golden Melodies" of Oriental Radio Station has kept its credibility and is in the ninth year of operation.

"We encourage our audience to vote for their favorite songs via written letters," said a spokeswoman for the station. "It is more reliable than voting on the Internet, where one person can vote again and again."

She said the radio station arranged a group of three to decide which songs to be broadcast as candidates for the competition.

On the name list of the top 10 winners are household names in Chinese mainland pop music circles, such as Na Ying, Tian Zhen, Zheng Jun and Xue Cun.
